“I’ve been amazing places and had incredible experiences because I studied science”
I work with oil and gas companies, government and academics to understand the marine environment and the impact we have on it. Should there be an oil spill, I plan how the organisations would talk about it and share information.
We all rely on oil and gas: we use it every day to power our homes and our cars – it’s even used to make our clothes! My job is important for ensuring that we are extracting oil and gas in a way that is sympathetic to the natural environment.
I really enjoy sponsoring new research. Working with universities, PhD students, and big project teams means I get to work with lots of different people on a daily basis.
It was the opportunities it’s presented me. I’ve been lowered into a volcano, dangled from the side of Hampton Court, help build flood defences, been on little boats out in the middle of the sea, and gone on field trips to the Rocky Mountains. I’ve been able to do these things because I studied science.
